Hollywood Foreign Press

Did anyone see the Golden Globes last night? I toggled between them and the UFC on Spike.
Do you think there were any politics involved? Brace yourself for the Oscars-
  • Of course, multiple awards to "Brokeback Mountain"
  • An award for a transexual portrayal
  • An award to "Paradise Now"- a humanizing portrait of Palestinian suicide bombers

Wow. Really in step with normal folks. If people in Hollywood are so courageous and accepting, why aren't their more "out" stars (Spacey!)? How about transgendered talent?

I would be surpised if "BB Mt." won the oscar. I have not seen it. It may deserve it. I think it would rank right up there with 1969's BP "Midnight Cowboy" for controversy. Which may be what the Oscars need. My pick would be "Cindrella Man" with "King Kong" and "The Constant Gardener" getting nominations. For documentaries "Grizzly Man" should eat the "Penguins". I know it is stylish to try and make the Palestinian movement out to be a civil rights issue, but this will not fly in Hollywood. Its an Oscar, not an Allah.

Yea, I guess I can't comment on the quality, but I just think that Hollywood, esp the foreign Hollywood press, can't resist shoving some of this in our faces. If the award is about messages more than performances, then it is false. Of course Clooooney only won one, and Heath didn't win, so maybe I am just looking for things to complain about. Maybe I just want a fleece lined jean jacket and a nice hug from behind on the range.

Package,

People in Germany (and the rest of Euroland) were thrilled that "Paradise Now" won the award. In fact, they were 'proud.'
And why not? It was produced with German money, and the dubbed-German version, had the Palestinian suicide bombers speak in regular High German while the Israelis were given 'bad guy' accents. For more see on this iffy production see
